As part of a democratic society, people with disabilities (PWDs) have as much of a voting right as any other eligible voter. However, their participation at such events can sometimes be made difficult by how accessible voting venues are for people with disabilities. As such, the Solomon Islands Electoral Commission (SIEC) is looking at ways to make voter registration centres, polling stations and voting booths more accessible and friendly to people with disabilities so that they too can part-take in the democratic process.

Benefits of Voting

Like any other Solomon Islands citizen, people with disabilities have as much of a right as any other citizen to take part in an election. As such, by participating in elections, people with disabilities can help choose candidates that have policies that reflect their needs as Solomon Islands citizens and enable them to participate more actively in their various communities and societies.
